CREATION
Le ZONTA INTERNATIONAL est une organisation non gouvernementale, apolitique et non confessionnelle créée à BUFFALO, Etat de New York, aux Etats Unis, le 8 Novembre 1919 par un groupe de femmes occupant des postes de responsabilités dans leurs secteurs d’activité.
La 1ère Présidente élue se nomme Mary JENKINS.
OBJECTIFS
Son objectif principal est d’aider à l’avancement du statut de la femme dans tous les domaines, ainsi qu’à son autonomisation, partout dans le monde par le service et le plaidoyer.
Le principal thème de cette biennale porte sur la lutte contre les mariages précoces et forcés de la petite fille.
ORGANISATION
Le Zonta International compte actuellement un peu plus de 28.000 membres, hommes et femmes, dans 63 pays et un peu plus de 1100 clubs.
Il est dirigé par une Présidente Internationale élue pour un mandat de deux ans, assistée d’une Présidente elect et d’un bureau composé de 7 Directeurs Internationaux, d’une trésorière /Secrétaite et de plusieurs responsables de comités. La Présidente Internationale est également Présidente de la Fondation du Zonta Internationale.
Le ZONTA INTERNATIONAL est divisé en régions appelées « DISTRICT ». Il en existe actuellement 32, répartis sur les cinq continents. Le continent Africain porte le numéro 18.
Chaque District est dirigé par un Gouverneur élu dont le mandat dure deux ans et un bureau composé de 7 membres à savoir, un Lieutenant-Gouverneur élu, Un trésorier élu, des Directeurs Area ; Le District 18 compte 3 Directeurs AREA élus, et un(e) secrétaire désigné par le Gouverneur.
Le District 18 du Zonta International compte 381 membres répartis dans neuf pays qui sont les suivants : SENEGAL, SIERRA LEONE, COTE d’IVOIRE, GHANA, BURKINA FASSO, TOGO, NIGERIA, BENIN, OUGANDA.
Chaque District comporte des zones appelées « AREA » placées sous l’autorité d’un Directeur Area et/ou d’un Vice Area Directeur lorsque la superficie de la zone l’exige.

NB ; En Côte d’Ivoire un club en formation est créé et porte le nom de Zonta club ABIDJAN COCODY. Au Ghana, un club est également annoncé pour célébrer le centième anniversaire du Zonta International et portera le nom de Zonta Club JUBILEE.
Pour mémoire, Le premier club du continent africain à avoir reçu la charte du Zonta International est celui d’ACCRA qui a célébré « en interne », son 50ème anniversaire le 9 Février 2020 et, de manière plus grandiose le 8 MARS 2020 à ACCRA.
CREATION
ZONTA INTERNATIONAL is a non-governmental, non-political and non-denominational organization founded in Buffalo, New York, USA, on November 8, 1919 by a group of women holding positions of responsibility in their various areas of endeavour.
The first elected President was Mary Jenkins.
OBJECTIVES
The organization’s main objective is to help advance the status of women in all fields and to empower them worldwide through service and advocacy.
The main theme of this biennial is the fight against early and forced marriage of the girl child.
ORGANIZATION
Zonta International currently has just over 28,000 male and female members in 63 countries, and just over 1,100 clubs.
The organization is headed by an International President elected for a two-year term, assisted by an elected President and an Executive Committee composed of seven International Directors, a Treasurer/Secretary and several committee chairs. The International President is also President of the Zonta International Foundation.
ZONTA International is divided into regions called « Districts ». There are currently 32 districts on five continents. The African continent is District number 18.
Each district is governed by an elected Governor whose term of office is two years, and an Executive Committee composed of seven members. They are: an elected Lieutenant Governor, an elected Treasurer, and Area Directors. District 18 has three elected Area Directors, and a Secretary appointed by the Governor.
Zonta International District 18 has 381 members in the following nine countries: Senegal, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, Nigeria, Benin, and Uganda.
Each district has zones called « AREAS » with each placed under the authority of an Area Director and/or a Vice Area Director when the size of the area requires it.
District 18 has three areas.

NB : In Côte d’Ivoire, a club is being created, called Zonta Club Abidjan Cocody.
In Ghana, the formation of a club has been announced to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Zonta International. It will be called Zonta Club Jubilee.
For the record, the first club on the African continent to have received the charter of Zonta International is that of Accra, which celebrated « internally » its 50th anniversary on February 9, 2020 and, in a grander way on March 8, 2020 in Accra.
