ZONTA CLUB OF ACCRA METROPOLITAN CELEBRATES CRYSTAL ANNIVERSARY

Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan celebrated the 15th anniversary since the charter of the Club.
Various activities were slated as part of the celebration of the Crystal Anniversary.

On Tuesday, 21st September 2021, members of the Club led by the Club President Zontian Lauretta Aryeetey, donated to the Ark Foundation clothes and cash at the Head office of the Foundation.
The CEO/Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr. Angela Dwamena-Aboagye briefed the club members about the history and functions of the Foundation and highlighted some of the challenges confronting the Foundation. She appealed for support from corporate organizations and well-meaning Ghanaians to keep the Shelter in operation.

Z. Lauretta Aryeetey assured the CEO that the Club will consider adopting the Shelter and providing for some of their needs.

Some members of Zonta Clubs of Accra and Accra Jubilee in solidarity, joined Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan for the presentation.

Friday, 24th September 2021- Endometriosis is a disorder in which the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside the uterus. The most common symptoms are pain and menstrual irregularities. A webinar was held on Endometriosis and students from some Senior High Schools were invited to participate. They included St. Mary’s SHS, St. Louis SHS, Wesley Girls High School, Holy Child School, O’Reilly SHS.

Zontians from the various Clubs as well as non-Zontians participated in the webinar. There was a total of seventy-three (73) log ins which included the five schools.

Dr. Francis De-Graft Dickson, MD and CEO of Nova Surgery Centre, in his presentation explained what Endometriosis is, how it presents, signs and symptoms and the consequences of delayed treatment. Dr. Dickson indicated that endometriosis is a lifetime disorder and he spoke on its treatment with hormones and other medications. He emphasized the need to seek medical attention early when one experiences the characteristic consistent excruciating pain before and during one’s menstrual cycle.

An advocate and a victim of Endometriosis Ms. Catherine Berko shared her harrowing experience with endometriosis for many years and the effect of delayed treatment which can lead to inability to have children.

26th September 2021- The Crystal anniversary was climaxed with a thanksgiving service at International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Christ Temple, Abossey Okai. The General Overseer of the Church Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil preached a sermon entitled “Atonement” in line with the communion service. He spoke on atonement in both the Old and New Testaments and how Jesus Christ has covered and removed our sins by the shedding of His blood and restored our relationship with God. The Club gave and a thanksgiving offering of GHS2000.

Thanksgiving service was followed by a paid lunch at the AH Hotel. Members of Zonta Clubs of Accra, Accra 2 and Accra Jubilee were present in their numbers to celebrate with Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan.
Congratulatory messages were delivered by Zontian Rachel Philips followed by the recitation of the poem “Smile with Me” and Zontian Stella Bentsi-Enchil via zoom.

Zontian Joyce Bannerman-Wood, a charter member shared her experiences up-to-date and encouraged all members to get involved to ensure that the objective of empowering women is achieved.

The climax of the lunch was the presentation of certificate of participation and prizes to the first three contestants for the Jane M. Klausman Young Women in Business Award.
An in-house band provided good music for dancing.
